About Clontarf DAC

Who we are:

Clontarf Day Activity Centre is an activation Centre for adults whose primary disability is a physical one. We cater for both men and women. We cater for people who were born with their disability and for those who disability is acquired.

We are situated in the main Central Remedial Clinic building in Clontarf. However some of our activities take place in Killester College. (See Links) Upwards of 64 people attend the Centre, and they refer to themselves as members. There are 9 staff employed.

What we do:

The Day Activation Centre provides a range of activities to its members. We also tend to any personal care requirements that members need.

The activities are broadly divided in to three main categories: Creative, Personal and Educational.

Creative Activities: These include Arts, Crafts, Music, Dance and Film. The DAC also has its own Drama group called the CENTRAL CHARACTERS. (See Links).

Personal: These activities include Assertive Training, Personal Development and Literacy classes.

Educational: These activities include Current Affairs, Cultural Studies, History and Environmental Studies.

Why we do it:

The people who attend the DAC all want to take their place in their community and in the larger society, of which they are a part. It is one of the roles of the DAC to help them achieve this. We believe that Education, accessing the Creative Arts, and developing Self are the most effective ways of attaining this goal.
