Located in Clondalkin, Scoil Mochua is a school for children and young people with physical disabilities living in West Dublin, North Kildare and West Wicklow. Scoil Mochua has been under the patronage of the Central Remedial Clinic since 1995 and approximately 75 children are enrolled, aged between three and 18 years old. Wheelchair accessible transport with escorts is available daily to and from the school. Out aim is to help our pupils achieve their maximum potential - physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually - in an atmosphere of trust, challenge, acceptance, and love. The Primary School Curriculum is taught in small class groups of 6 -8 students (each with a Special Needs Assistant) and is carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of each pupil. Computers with updated educational and/or special needs software play a fundamental part in all educational programmes in school. Extra curricular activities include swimming, horse-riding, sports and leisure activities, cookery and horticulture.

Students in the Senior Cycle (aged 12 - 18) follow combined academic and independent skills development programmes. Junior Certificate English, Mathematics, History and Geography may be appropriate for some, while a variety of courses are available through NCVA modules for others.

They may also join fellow students in the local community college for some subjects. A trial post school placement in a training or sheltered workshop setting may also be appropriate for school leavers.

Suntower Gardens, in the grounds of Scoil Mochua, has been constructed primarily for disabled people. The provision of an educational resource with horticultural programmes/training for the students of Scoil Mochua is one of its most important aims.

Therapy and nursing services are on going throughout the school day, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. Access is also available to the services of social worker, dietician, seating experts and paediatrician.

Children may transfer from Scoil Mochua to a local Primary or Second Level School at any point, if this is deemed appropriate. We will liaise closely with both parents and school providing support and advice as required. Some children at senior level find that partial integration for some subjects works best and we both encourage and facilitate that process.

Parents play an exceptionally important role in the education and development of their children. At Scoil Mochua we encourage and facilitate close contact between staff and parents at all times.
