Core Strength Exercises

## As these are General Exercises ideas please ensure your child’s safety by supervising your child when doing the exercises. Please provide your child with as much support as is needed.##

Core Strength Exercises
The “Core” muscles are the central muscles that stabilise the body as we move. This includes the muscles in the abdomen, back and pelvis. The key to strengthening these muscles is to try to use them to keep the centre part of our body steady when doing exercises. If the centre of our body isn’t stable, then we tend to move too much in the centre of our bodies and “fix” or stabilise ourselves with our limbs.

The key to core activities is to make it fun and part of a game. Make it a challenge and give the activity a playful purpose!

Always make sure that when your child is doing core exercises that they are not holding their breath as this allows them to compensate and not use the core muscles.

Examples:
Play games on hands and knees position. Try to hold position and lift one hand or one leg.
